Foliage penetration effect on polarimetric SAR interferometry
ثبت نشده
چکیده
The capability of electromagnetic waves to penetrate trough foliage (FOLPEN), combined with the potentialities of the polarimetric SAR interferometry (POL-InSAR) are demonstrated to be valid instruments for the investigation of forest characteristics and the detection of camouflaged targets. However, the complexity of the interactions of different forest elements can lead to unexpected results. Some of these effects are explained by means of a simulator (PRIS).

Introduction: BACKGROUND, GOAL AND CONTENT OF THE LECTURE SERIES ON POLARIMETRIC SAR INTERFEROMETRY
Scientists and engineers already engaged in the fields of radar surveillance, reconnaissance and scattering measurements, for instance, generally gain their specialist knowledge in Polarimetry by working through scientific papers and specialised literature available on the subject. Usually, this is a time consuming exercise, as it is difficult for a newcomer to collate material especially on Po...
متن کاملPenetration property of the L-band SAR and its coherence (JAXA PI-193)
L-band signal has excellent penetration property to the natural targets, i.e., forest and desert, and thus the SAR interferometry in the forest region is made available. Since the penetration property depends on the polarization, the distributed targets in the Amazon cannot be used for the polarimetric calibration source unless the polarization dependence can be clarified. Use of dense forest f...
متن کاملPolarimetric Interferomtry
SAR polarimetry makes use of the polarization dependent scattering response of each pixel within the imaged area. The polarimetric response is highly sensitive to the scattering mechanism of a pixel. SAR interferometry is sensitive to the location of a pixel and its scattering geometry. The location of a pixel can be measured by the phase difference between two coherent SAR images using SAR int...
متن کاملForest Canopy Height Mapping from Dual-wavelength Sar Interferometry
The CORSAR project (Carbon Observation and Retrieval from SAR), which is supported by the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), has the objective to examine polarimetric decomposition and polarimetric SAR interferometry methods for estimating the effects of canopy structure in biomass-backscatter relationships. Forest canopy height is a useful input parameter to yield models, carbon c...
متن کاملForest Height Feature Extraction in Polarimetric SAR Interferometry by using Rotational Invariance Property
This paper present a new forest height feature extraction technique for single baseline polarimetric and interferometric SAR data. The authors have proposed polarimetric SAR interferometry based on the ESPRIT algorithm. However, the algorithm assumes that there exist dominant polarized components in both the ground and canopy. Hence, estimated interferometric phase of local scattering centers m...
